Here in the tiny mountain town of Carbondale, we get to witness a phenomenon called alpenglow most evenings. Just as the sun is setting, a pinkish light reflects from the clouds onto the snowy top of Mount Sopris, washing her in gentle, rosy light before she goes to bed. It only lasts a few moments, and most of us are trained to stop what we're doing and breathe deeply in gratitude for the wholesome, hopeful beauty of the natural world. Essential oils of lavender, clary sage, and grapefruit create a wholesome, hopeful scent, and madder root's pink color is a nod to our glowing peak in the last light of a winter day. Who knew you could fit a whole mountain in your shower??
