This time of year can be crazy, from a copious number of calendar invites to balancing life and work amidst feasting and family. When you feel like life is filling up, and you're about to boil over - pause, and take a sip of this soothing and grounding golden milk latte. Turmeric and ginger make this a prime potion for health, but sometimes a quiet night in is just what the doctor ordered. Enjoy!
INGREDIENTS
- 1 knob of fresh grated ginger (freezing helps the grating process!)
- 1 knob of fresh grated turmeric
- 2 cups of almond milk or your milk of choice
- 1/2 cup of filtered water
- 5-7 turns of fresh ground black pepper
- honey to taste
DIRECTIONS
Rinse both the fresh ginger and turmeric under cold water. Grab a saucepan and grate about one thumb-sized* piece of both ginger and turmeric into the pot. This isn't the official measurement, feel free to add as much or little as you like, based on your preferred spice level.
NOTE: Hands may turn a beautiful hue of orange. Don't fret - I know a place that makes wonderful soaps and their Coffee Mint Soap is great in the kitchen!
Add two cups of your preferred milk, and a 1/2 cup of filtered water, and the black pepper. I choose unsweetened almond milk and I've recently started making my own with the help of Almond Cow! (You can use the code OSMIA for a little price break and free shipping!)
Warm the liquid on low to medium heat until it's a gorgeous deep orange color (typically, 5 minutes for me). Don't forget the black pepper - this little sprinkle increases the health benefits of the turmeric. Curious how that works? Read this.
Once you have the desired color, strain contents into your favorite mug. I'm a big fan of YETI mugs, and they make a perfect holiday gift!
Add sweetener to taste - I recommend local honey, but choose what makes your heart sing. (Don't add honey until after straining so it doesn't get stuck on the bottom of the pot or in the ginger/turmeric gratings.)
Apply your favorite nourishing face mask, sit and sip on the golden goodness!
With love and delicious golden-milk-filled mugs from us to you,
