We were walking through the airport one time, and she was wearing loose culottes that looked like a skirt. She became convinced that both of her legs were through the same leg hole, so she stopped right in the middle of the terminal and did these absurd contortions to get her leg over into the proper leg hole. Then, she realized that her legs had not been in the same hole, but that they were now as a result of her emergency yoga maneuver. We both almost passed out laughing.
Her favorite recipe:
She used to make an apple-cheddar kugel that was about the tastiest thing I ever ate - I wish I had her recipe now!
Clarins facial oils - she used them every day.
On a trip to Paris when I was 16, she and two of her friends wore way too many floral patterns and spread maps out on the sidewalk - it was mortifying. I was positive that, but for them, nobody in Paris would have known I was American.
She graduated from law school when I was eight - I remember her walking across the stage in cap and gown, and thinking it was so cool that she was still learning such big things after she had two children.
Two things. First, I can still remember the exact feeling of her hand in mine. We walked hand-in-hand as grown women all the time, and yet I still wish I had spent even more time holding her hand. Second, I love that she started painting again in the last year of her life. It serves as a dual reminder: don’t be afraid to try new and difficult things, and don’t wait to follow the passions that bring you joy.

So many to choose from! One of my favorites from childhood is listening to her play old records late at night while my brother and I fell asleep at our cabin in northern Arizona. These evenings were my introduction to many wonderful, talented musicians that came before my time!
How do I pick one?! She's an amazing cook of healthy, delicious meals. She loves Mexican food and her favorite time of year is when she hosts her "Tamale Making Party" with whoever would like to join! Everyone gathers around our big dining room table and constructs their own tamales with corn masa and husks. It's been a wonderful tradition of hers that we all look forward to. They're great to eat, too!
Pine trees. We grew up going to our family cabin in northern Arizona and it was surrounded by pine trees.
Oh she loves to embarrass me! There are too many moments to consider to answer this question.
When she drove all the way to the reservation land between Colorado and Arizona to rescue a group of starving dogs she saw a few weeks before. She couldn't stop thinking about them and had to save as many as she could! One is now a loving member of our family, Kaibab!
Peg's a natural blonde and a pistol that made me into the strong, independent woman I am today! She's going to kill me for revealing this, but her nickname is Party Peg because she's always so much fun and never dull to be around.

A weird coming of age song to think of your mom, but growing up I remember belting out every word while we drove around with the windows down. To this day every time one of hears it we text each other that J & D is on.
Traveling with her —Chicago trips, Lawrence, or her failed mission to take me home from New York after a scary run-in on the subway.
She's a great cook, but some of my favorites are her green beans, her crab dip, and her "fried chicken."
Bonfire. She's always in for sitting around the fire. Add some Little River Band music in the background, and she's a happy lady.
When she signed me up for cotillion (etiquette classes) when I was in 6th grade. Learning how to slow dance with boys was part of it, which meant I had to touch them — I was mortified.
A moment you felt really proud of her:
When she quit her job, sold her house and most of her belongings to move to Colorado to be closer to her grandkids. That's a brave move. She had lived in St. Louis her whole life, and she dropped everything to be closer.
She's a strong woman with a fantastic sense of humor.

My Mom is Hungarian and doesn't really speak English, still every time she visits us in Colorado she manages to make herself understood, have a conversation even with my friends and neighbors! I am blown away every time!
My Mom is the strongest, toughest, craftiest, most caring woman I have ever known, with enough love in her heart for the whole world!

Edelweiss. She used to sing it to me before bed to help me fall asleep. It always made me feel safe and loved, and now I do the same with my son, Ari.
Favorite memory of your mom:
I know that I said this in my Osmia bio as well, but it still stands true today. It has to be our road trip across the country from Georgia to Montana after I graduated from college and headed to Glacier National Park for my first adventurous job away from home. We had so much fun taking turns driving along in my little RAV4; laughing, talking, sharing and becoming closer than we had ever been before! It truly was a once in a lifetime experience with my Mom that I will always cherish.
Her favorite recipe:
Her Swedish pancakes. They may not be her favorite recipe to make, but they were always my favorite one to eat!
What smell reminds you of your mom:
Mom never wore perfumes or things with much of a scent because she was super sensitive and had allergies to what we now know were synthetic fragrances. The one smell that I can always pick out though and reminds me of my mom is the very subtle hint of fragrance in her pancake makeup that she wore almost every day.
A moment she embarrassed you:
I honestly can’t think of one that stands out in my mind, although I am sure there were several throughout the teenage years that I felt were unbearable at the time!
A moment you felt really proud of her:
There are many times that I have felt proud of my mom, but one that sticks out in my memory is when she just up and decided to learn how to play the French horn one day. Now if you are familiar with it, then you will know that this is not an easy instrument to play by any means; but she was determined to learn and proceeded to take lessons and practice until she got it! She has always had a strong drive to learn new things and finish what she starts no matter what, which is a trait that I admire about her so much and continue to aspire to replicate in my own life.
Anything else you'd like to add about your mom:
My mom is one of the strongest women I know and has always had an indelible sense of independence which she worked hard to instill in me. I believe that this has helped me be able to venture out and take risks in my own in life while becoming the person that I am proud to be today. I will always be thankful for this. Thank you Mom!
